You may have noticed that some of your FB friends have already adopted the new FB Timeline profile and you can easily recognize the FB Timeline profile by its large showcase picture, (742 px. width) displayed at the top of a FB Timeline profile page.
The New Changes:
No longer is your default profile displayed in the form of a most recent updated list. Instead, your profile will now contain a complete summary of your entire life, beginning at birth.
This new FB Timeline profile is inclusive of photos, videos, status updates and places you have visited. This new FB Timeline profile is divided into two main columns, punctuated by a line separating the middle of the page, delineating the passage of time. Users now have the option to add life events, which were previously not captured by FB, particularly events that occurred before a person joined FB.
The most significant moments of your life are determined by an algorithm, which you can edit the results to your specifications. In the event there are updates you prefer not to be included, these updates can be hidden from the Timeline.
Some social media enthusiasts have stated that these new FB profile pages are one of FB’s most radical redesigns to-date. In fact, this re-imaging of the FB profile pages are considered by many as what amounts to a new imagination applied to what social networking profiles can look like, including their functionality. Others have implied that FB now bears fewer similarities to Google+. Google+ still uses the standard format of revealing the most recent updates first.
Notes of Concern:
Some FB Timeline critics suggest that due to FB requesting users to “complete” their profiles, this action amounts to nothing more than FB attempting to present its user base as a more relevant environment for the advertising community. Meanwhile, others have claimed that the FB Timeline now offers more detailed information about a person that was previously much more difficult to access. These critics further assert that adding your date of birth to your profile, among other directives to add more personal information, could encourage identity theft.
